Emerald Care

The Emerald is a beautiful green gemstone and since it's May (Emerald is the month of May's birthstone), I thought I'd share some tips on how to take care of your Emerald jewelry.

Emerald Rings:
Be careful with rings, remove them before any heavy activity like cleaning and washing dishes or working with tools. A hard knock against a stainless sink or counter can break your Emerald.

Cleaning your Emerald:
At home, use warm water and a soft cloth when it is clearly dirty.
For a thorough clean you can visit a professional jeweler who will use acids to clean your jewelry and also give it a nice protective finish with cedar wood oil.
It is important not to use any ultrasonic cleaner or steamer since the Emerald is a rather fragile stone and rapid temperature changes can cause fissures in the stone.

The Turtleneck

Can you wear a necklace with a turtleneck? Of course you can! There's a few things to remember though.
First, the necklace must be very long in order not to crowd the collar.
Second, the necklace must stand out of fabric of your top/dress. The best way to achieve this is to use bold beads, big sizes, different shapes or vibrant and contrasting colors.
Pair your outfit with short earrings in order not to crowd the high collar and you've got an awesome daring look!

The round or scoop neckline

The scoop or round neckline exposes a wide area of skin at the collar bone above the cleavage, therefore it is important to choose jewelry that will fill the area in an appealing way without crowding it.
Necklaces should be simple and delicate and of choker length hitting the collar bone or just below. A strand or two of white pearls will create a very feminine look for this kind of neckline!
Earrings should also be simple in order not to overpower the necklace. Stay away from the dramatic dangles!

The Boat-Line

As if it wasn't hard enough to pick the perfect fit with your clothes, now, you have to accessorize! What kind of jewelry matches the neckline of your clothes?

The boat-neck features a sharp neckline across the collarbone, from one shoulder to the other. Short necklaces are the only choice with this style since longer styles will simulate a broader chest.
Chokers (12 -15 inches) with a strand or two are perfect to emphasize the sexy curves of your shoulders!

The V-Neck

As if it wasn't hard enough to pick the perfect fit with your clothes, now, you have to accessorize! What kind of jewelry matches the neckline of your clothes?

The deep V-Neck permits a very feminine silhouette and it's great for looking sexy! Lengthy pendant necklaces with layered strands that mirror the cut of your dress are perfect for emphasising your cleavage. Be sure that the pendant falls about an inch below or above the V. Otherwise the cut and the necklace will intermingle and hide each other.

Add some long chandelier earrings and you've got a look to dazzles all eyes!

Jewelry Tips: Magnetic Clasps

Magnetic clasps are great! They securely fasten bracelets, anklets and necklaces. No need to struggle with tiny clasps! No need to ask around for help to wear your favorite piece of jewelry!

Unfortunately, the magnetic clasp as been tossed aside in jewelry making because of their tendency to ruin the jewelry. It is due to their strong magnetic attraction. This attraction is stronger than the surrounding chain links. If the wearer continuously pulls on the chain to separate the clasp, the chain loops will loosen and eventually break.

It's easy to avoid this problem.
Simply slide the magnets in opposite directions until they do not touch anymore.

This very simple technique will lengthen the life of your jewelry!
