Pearl

Pearl is this month birthstone, it's general signification is truth and beauty. Moonstone and Alexandrite are also birthstone for the month of June. As an interesting little fact, in North America there is an outstanding tradition for the husband to give pearl jewelry on the 3dr and 30th wedding anniversary. So, men remember this your wife will be expecting it!!!

For me the pearl, whether fresh or salt water signify beauty and class. I love to create modern pieces from vintage designs. I like to innovate original pieces into something non-traditional, to play with their color, and metals to renew the classic pearl necklace. Usually, the classic pearl necklace is a symbol of sophistication and to be very lady like but I like to work away from that idea to make the pearl necklace accessible to all styles and personalities. What do you think? Should the pearl necklace remain classic or is it time to give it a contemporary feel?
I'm always looking for great new idea so feel free to let me now any wild suggestion you come up with.

Here are some of my jewelry creations made with pearls

Simple Summer Bangles

This bracelet was conceived for my daughter's best friend who likes green and orange so I created a fresh and fun summer look with these resin pieces that I made from molds. I alternated from solid and translucent pieces as well as square and round in order to give this bracelet a young and stylish design. I created an amber color for the square pieces by using some translucent orange and solid brown dyes and mixing very carefully. The round light green pieces were created similarly with solid white dye and translucent green dye. The colors contrast nicely creating a very summer look that looks great on tanned skin. This bracelet is also very light to wear since it's made with resin and barely weights anything so it's great for summer when we want to feel free with are cute little summer dresses. The resin pieces are linked together with a copper wire that is folded unto itself creating a solid bangle effect. The clasp is a simple hook created from the copper wire.

Emerald Care

The Emerald is a beautiful green gemstone and since it's May (Emerald is the month of May's birthstone), I thought I'd share some tips on how to take care of your Emerald jewelry.

Emerald Rings:
Be careful with rings, remove them before any heavy activity like cleaning and washing dishes or working with tools. A hard knock against a stainless sink or counter can break your Emerald.

Cleaning your Emerald:
At home, use warm water and a soft cloth when it is clearly dirty.
For a thorough clean you can visit a professional jeweler who will use acids to clean your jewelry and also give it a nice protective finish with cedar wood oil.
It is important not to use any ultrasonic cleaner or steamer since the Emerald is a rather fragile stone and rapid temperature changes can cause fissures in the stone.

The Turtleneck

Can you wear a necklace with a turtleneck? Of course you can! There's a few things to remember though.
First, the necklace must be very long in order not to crowd the collar.
Second, the necklace must stand out of fabric of your top/dress. The best way to achieve this is to use bold beads, big sizes, different shapes or vibrant and contrasting colors.
Pair your outfit with short earrings in order not to crowd the high collar and you've got an awesome daring look!

Summer Bride

I created this lovely kit for a friend's wedding. She's a big fan of flowers so I recreated a lily shape in white polymer clay and used stylized gold colored wire for the stems. I also inserted little gold filigree beads to act as a stamen.
The white and gold colors create a very classic look and the flower shapes give this set a unique vintage style, which looked awesome with her light tan/old pink wedding dress. To bring out the pink in her dress I also inserted in the pendant a little red gem.

The round or scoop neckline

The scoop or round neckline exposes a wide area of skin at the collar bone above the cleavage, therefore it is important to choose jewelry that will fill the area in an appealing way without crowding it.
Necklaces should be simple and delicate and of choker length hitting the collar bone or just below. A strand or two of white pearls will create a very feminine look for this kind of neckline!
Earrings should also be simple in order not to overpower the necklace. Stay away from the dramatic dangles!
